Meta’s ‘Full Holographic’ AR Glasses: A Glance into the Future of Augmented Reality

Zuckerberg is excited to reveal Meta’s latest augmented-reality prototype, which is on the verge of being unveiled. During an interview with YouTuber Kane Sutter, also known as Kallaway, the CEO teased Meta’s upcoming “full holographic” glasses. While these glasses may not be available for purchase for some time, presenting such advanced technology could generate buzz around Meta’s continued investments in the AR space.

Meta’s first version of “true” AR glasses, known internally as Orion, is expected to be showcased during the fall at Meta’s annual Connect conference. These glasses will be a significant step forward for Meta in terms of integrating AR technology while keeping the design aesthetically pleasing. The prototype might not be the most stylish, with thicker frames to accommodate the AR technology, but they will still resemble glasses rather than a headset like Meta’s Quest or Apple’s new Vision Pro.

Meta’s chief technology officer, Andrew Bosworth, previously expressed that the upcoming AR glasses could be the most advanced technology in its domain. Given the overwhelming demand for Meta Ray-Bans and Zuckerberg’s focus on keeping these products aesthetically appealing, it is clear that he has high hopes for these new glasses. With advancements in AI, Zuckerberg believes that even simpler AR products will have significant consumer appeal sooner due to their improved functionality without requiring full holograms.

Over the years, Meta has invested billions in its Reality Labs division, which focuses on developing advanced products such as VR and AR wearables and metaverse software supporting them. Zuckerberg emphasized that it will take time for these products to deliver substantial returns but signaled a long-term commitment to the development of cutting-edge technologies within the AR and VR space. With this commitment from one of tech giant like Zuckerberg it’s safe to say that we can expect more advanced developments in this field soon.
