Meta Unveils New ‘AI Insights’ Label to Boost Transparency in AI-Powered Content Creation

In February of this year, Meta announced a new way to label images that have been generated or edited with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Instead of the generic label ‘Made with AI’, they are now using the more specific label ‘AI Information’ to provide users with more details about how the technology was used and whether it involved major modifications or minor tweaks. Initially, images that utilized AI technology were labeled ‘Made with AI’, regardless of whether they were entirely generated by AI or simply edited using AI tools. Some professional photographers expressed frustration with this labeling system, as even minor retouching using AI resulted in the ‘Made with AI’ label being applied to their authentic content. In response to feedback from users and content creators, Meta has now replaced the ‘Made with AI’ label with ‘AI Insights’ for images that involve any level of AI-powered editing.
