Meta Platforms, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has announced that its latest social media service, Threads, has reached over 175 million monthly active users. This news came just days before Threads celebrated its one-year anniversary. Although Meta has not disclosed daily active users or average user engagement metrics, these numbers indicate significant growth since February.
Threads emerged as a competitor to X (formerly Twitter) and quickly gained popularity worldwide, attracting 100 million users in less than a week after its initial release in some regions. The app’s success was partly attributed to its integration with Instagram, making it easy for existing users to create Threads profiles. Unlike other platforms, Threads does not display advertisements to users.
Despite its rapid growth globally, Threads was only introduced to the EU market at the end of 2023. This delayed entry may have impacted its user base in the region, but Meta remains optimistic about the platform’s future. With Meta’s established presence in the social media landscape through Instagram and Facebook, Threads is poised to continue growing and evolving in the coming years.
