Teenager Antonelli Set to Replace Hamilton at Mercedes in Shocking Move

Mercedes Formula One Driver Lewis Hamilton Shares His Confidence in Young Italian Successor, Antonio Kimi Antonelli.

Mercedes Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton was spotted driving during the second practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The news that 17-year-old Italian driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli will replace him at Mercedes in 2025 was reported by Bild newspaper on Tuesday.

Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes to join Ferrari next season has surprised the F1 world. The young Italian driver is expected to team up with George Russell in the Mercedes line-up, which has been confirmed by Toto Wolff, the team principal. However, Wolff stated that they have not finalized plans for next year yet, and they are looking to reinvent themselves for the future.

Antonelli bypassed Formula 3 and is currently competing in Formula 2. He has also had the opportunity to test out older Mercedes cars as a member of their junior academy. Hamilton expressed his confidence in Antonelli being a good successor, although he is unsure about Mercedes’ specific plans. Nonetheless, if it were up to him, Hamilton indicated that Antonelli would be his choice to take his place in the Mercedes line-up.
