A fire recently broke out on the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas. The incident occurred while the ship was docked in a port in Mexico. According to a Royal Caribbean spokesperson, the fire was quickly extinguished, and there were no injuries. The overall impact on board was minimal.
The Icon of the Seas is nearly 1,200 feet long and 250,800 gross tons. Passengers were alerted about the incident through on-board announcements, and social media users in an Icon of the Seas Facebook group mentioned minor disruptions to their day. However, things quickly returned to normal. The ship’s itinerary was not affected by the fire, and it is now en route to the Mexican island of Cozumel.
Fires on cruise ships are not common but not uncommon, according to a Royal Caribbean spokesperson. Most fires are handled swiftly and with minimal disruption to passengers. The $2 billion Icon of the Seas made headlines earlier this year with its record-breaking features, including seven swimming pools and a 17,000-square-foot water park.
