IndianOil Corp. Ltd (IOCL) has recently selected Lummus Technology’s cumene technology for a 440,000 tpy unit in Paradip, India. This new cumene unit is part of a larger petrochemical and polymers expansion project at IndianOil’s complex in Paradip. The technology is expected to provide IndianOil with lower energy costs, improved reliability, operational efficiency, and better product yield, ultimately helping them optimize their plant economics and support their growth initiatives.
Lummus Technology has been involved in the project on several levels, including the technology license for cumene, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training. The company has been in partnership with Versalis to license cumene technologies since 2007. The cumene process uses liquid-phase alkylation technology with a proprietary zeolite catalyst to achieve high cumene yield and ultra-high purity product at long catalyst run lengths.
Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology expressed his optimism about the project and looks forward to continuing his successful partnership with IndianOil. This project further solidifies Lummus’ position as a leading provider of innovative downstream solutions for the petrochemical industry.
