LSU’s Search for Infielders Takes Urgent Turn with Ryan Kucherak’s Transfer from Arizona

Ryan Kucherak, a highly-ranked shortstop from Arizona in the 2023 recruiting class, has opted to transfer to LSU after just one season at his home school. During his time with the Tigers, Kucherak played in 16 games and had 12 at-bats, finishing the season with a .250 batting average and two RBI.

LSU is facing a significant shortage of infielders following the departure of several key players from last season’s team. Jared Jones and Tommy White are both likely to turn pro, Ben Nippolt is no longer eligible, and Austen Roellig is transferring to Utah. In addition, all three catchers have either graduated or are heading elsewhere. This leaves Stephen Milam, Michael Braswell III, and possibly Josh Pearson as the only remaining options on the team.

With Braswell III and Pearson both projected to be drafted in the 2024 MLB Draft but still having eligibility remaining for another year, LSU will need to fill those gaps on their roster. The transfer portal will be an important resource for them as they work to do so.

Kucherak’s decision to enter the transfer portal has added urgency to LSU’s search for infielders.
