
Loyalsock Ali Brothers Lead Mansfield Men in Overtime Loss: Sports News
On Monday night, the Mansfield Mountaineers men’s basketball team faced off in a non-conference road clash with Dominican University of New York. The game was a nail-biter as both teams fought for supremacy in overtime. The Ali brothers, Saraj and Idris, were instrumental in the Mounties’ success as they combined for 48 points on the night.
Saraj Ali had an impressive performance, scoring his career high of 26 points and posting another double-double with ten rebounds. Idris Ali also contributed to the team’s efforts, scoring 22 points and grabbing five rebounds. Both players are Loyalsock graduates and played key roles in the Mounties’ victory.
Manir Waller had a standout game as well, earning his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds on the night. Dominican got off to an early lead of 21-11 on their home court before the Mounties turned things around with a dominant offensive output over the next eight minutes. During this time, Idris Ali scored seven points himself and helped take Mansfield’s lead to 31-26 with just five minutes remaining in the half.
As halftime approached, Dominican held a narrow advantage of 36-35 going into the final half but Mansfield owned momentum after their dominance in the paint with 28 points. The Ali brothers combined to score 19 of Mansfield’s first half points.
The second half started off as a hard-fought battle between both teams, with six lead changes occurring within the first five minutes before Dominican held onto a slight advantage of 52-48. Despite this setback, Mansfield kept it competitive until Dominican led by just one possession at six o’clock mark leaving them tied at 67 all squared .
