Local Sports Star Honored for Exceptional Play in Defeating BC” – Sports, Job Coverage

Pitt senior defensive end Dayon Hayes was named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his outstanding performance in the Panthers’ 24-16 win over Boston College last week. Hayes collected six tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks and two deflected passes during the game. His TFLs went for 15 yards in losses.

Hayes played a crucial role in spearheading a defensive effort that held the ACC’s top rushing attack (202.5 yards per game) to 154 yards – more than 48 yards below their average. On the season, Hayes has accumulated an impressive total of 40 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, six quarterback hurries, four sacks and a forced fumble. He currently leads the team in TFLs and hurries while ranking second in sacks.

This is Hayes’ second career ACC Player of the Week award, having previously earned this recognition for his three-sack performance at Miami on November 26th, 2022. With Duke coming up next on Saturday at noon on the ACC Network, Hayes and the Panthers are eager to continue their impressive play and defend their title on home turf.
