Legacy of Mary Jo Eckenrode: How She Transformed News, Sports, and Careers

Mary Jo Eckenrode, a beloved member of the Niles community, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 17, 2023. She was 64 years old. Born in Warren on March 24, 1959, Mary Jo was the daughter of James W. and Rosalie Nacco McGinnis.

Throughout her life, Mary Jo dedicated herself to her work at Trumbull Regional Medical Center. Her unwavering commitment to her patients and colleagues made a profound impact on those around her.

Mary Jo leaves behind a loving family that will dearly miss her presence in their lives. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Eckenrode; daughter, Sarah Winston of Austintown; mother, Rosalie McGinnis of Niles; one grandson; and three sisters, Carolyn S. McGinnis of McDonald, Carla J. Scites of Niles and Lois Welsh of Edgewater, Maryland.

In addition to her loved ones, Mary Jo was also preceded in death by her father; a son, Matthew Winston; an infant daughter; stepson, Thomas Eckenrode II; and one brother.

The family has invited friends to gather for calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wm Nicholas Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Niles. It is here that we can come together to celebrate Mary Jo’s life and express our deepest condolences to those who knew her best.
