Italy began its European Championships campaign with a 2-1 victory over Albania, despite conceding the quickest goal in tournament history. Despite being underdogs, Albania got off to a strong start when Nedim Bajrami scored just 23 seconds into the game. However, Italy quickly regained control with Nicolo Barella scoring the winning goal in the 16th minute with a strike from the edge of the area.
Italy’s goal came after Alessandro Bastoni equalized for them in the 11th minute with a free header from close range. The second half saw Italy maintain control, but goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced to make a crucial save in injury time to secure the win.
Italy’s victory put them atop Group B alongside Spain, and their next match will be against Croatia.
