Sheffield Wednesday will be closely monitoring American forward Duncan McGuire during the Olympic Games this summer. The Italian Serie A side, Torino, has entered the race to sign him after both Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers showed interest earlier in the year.
According to reports from Tuttosport, Torino plans to scout McGuire as he represents the United States at the Paris Olympics. With his contract set to expire in December at MLS side Orlando, Torino sees him as a promising opportunity for their squad and is likely to make a move for him after the Olympics conclude.
Sheffield Wednesday, however, has not given up on their pursuit of McGuire. Manager Danny Rohl is keen on strengthening his attacking options and the club is actively involved in the transfer market. It remains uncertain whether McGuire will choose to move to Torino or stay with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls are set to kick off their Championship campaign on August 11th against Plymouth Argyle and McGuire’s future destination may become clearer in the coming weeks.
