Attack on Rafah: Start Date Still Undecided by media

Israel Prepares for Strike on Gaza Border Town Rafah, Plans to Evacuate Civilians Amid International Concerns

Prime Minister Netanyahu has instructed the armed forces to prepare a plan to carry out an attack on Rafah, a Gaza border town, and evacuate civilians from the area. The date of the attack has not yet been decided, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which cites insider sources. One of the main challenges is that Israel has not yet reached an agreement with Egypt about what will happen to the tunnels running between Egypt and Gaza. Hamas is believed to have used these tunnels to smuggle weapons and supplies into Gaza.

According to a press release from Netanyahu’s office, the Prime Minister has ordered the armed forces to destroy four Hamas battalions in Rafah and evacuate civilians from the area. The attack should be completed by March 10, before Ramadan begins. Hamas has warned that a possible Israeli ground attack on Rafah could result in tens of thousands of casualties. International actors have also expressed their concern about the potential consequences of such an attack, as Israel previously urged people to evacuate to southern Gaza and there are hundreds of thousands of civilians in the Rafah area. According to data from Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry by Saturday, more than 28,000 people had already been killed by Israeli airstrikes and attacks in response to October’s Hamas attack on Israelis.
