The Entebbe 2024 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports recently came to a close in central Uganda. The competition featured intense matches in chess and attracted participants from 16 different countries. This was not the first time Entebbe had hosted a FISU event, as they previously held the FISU Championship Cross Country in 2014.
In the women’s blitz event, Poland swept the podium with Julia Antolak taking the gold medal, Liwia Jarocka securing silver, and Anna Kubicka earning the bronze. Meanwhile, Aakanksha Hagawane from India emerged victorious in the women’s classic event after a closely contested competition that ended in a four-way tie.
On the men’s side, Milosz Szpar of Poland clinched the gold medal ahead of two French competitors in the classic tournament. In addition, Igor Janik from Poland took home the gold medal in the men’s blitz event, with Richard Mladek of Czech Republic and Richard Turcan of Slovakia finishing closely behind him.
