India’s Mega Election: The Battle for Power and the Future of Governance

The world’s largest poll has begun, with India commencing its historic voting process in the Lok Sabha election of 2024. Almost a billion people are eligible to cast their ballots, and the voting period spans over seven days, ending on 1 June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a rare third consecutive term in power, while key opposition parties such as the Congress have formed alliances in many states to challenge his party.

Major issues at stake include job creation, soaring prices, crackdowns on dissent and politics of religion. With results announced on 4 June, the outcome will shape India’s future for years to come. The elections have garnered global attention due to their scale and importance in shaping the political landscape of one of the world’s largest democracies. As Indians take pride in their democratic values and participation in the electoral process, all eyes are on this crucial election that will determine the direction of India’s governance.
