S Jaishankar engages in discussions on trade, technology, and global issues with Qatar’s PM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar strengthens ties with Qatar in first visit since freed Indian prisoners.

S Jaishankar, India’s External Affairs Minister, made a day-long visit to Doha on Sunday. During his meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, they discussed the bilateral relationship in detail. The topics of discussion included political, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people ties. Additionally, they exchanged views on regional and global issues with a focus on the situation in Gaza.

Jaishankar expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed the greetings and warm wishes of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Prime Minister of Qatar. He emphasized the importance of further enhancing India-Qatar relations and continuing dialogue on issues of mutual interest.

This visit was significant as it came after Qatar released eight former Indian Navy personnel who were sentenced to death in August 2022. Jaishankar was received at the airport by Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Fakhroo. The aim of this visit was to review various aspects of bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation between India and Qatar.

In February 2022, Prime Minister Modi visited Qatar and had discussions with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Both countries share a commitment to regular exchange of high-level visits and cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.

Overall, S Jaishankar’s visit to Doha highlights the strong bond between India and Qatar and underscores their shared commitment to deepening their relationship through continued dialogue and cooperation in various fields.
