In Memory of LaDonna L. Phelps (1959-2023) – A Tribute to a cherished figure.
On Thursday, November 16th, 2023, LaDonna Lynn Phelps, a beloved member of the Newton Falls community, passed away peacefully at her home. Born on January 16th, 1959 in Elberton, Georgia to Leon and Lillian Reynolds Garrett, LaDonna was raised in a loving family and went on to pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Elbert County High School and later attended Athens Technical School where she received her nursing degree.
LaDonna dedicated over 30 years of her life to the nursing profession, working tirelessly to provide care and comfort to those in need. Her last job was at Victoria House, where she retired in 2021 after giving countless hours of service. In her spare time, LaDonna enjoyed pursuing her hobbies which included crocheting, sewing, baking, playing the piano and painting pictures.
On April 25th, 1995, LaDonna exchanged vows with Walter Phelps in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her husband Walter Phelps; sons Wesley Davis and Tyler Phelps; daughter Julie Davis; mother Lillian; brother Keith; sisters Saronda Garrett-Hallamore and Tammie Garrett-Smith; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Tragically, LaDonna’s father Leon preceded her in death.
The family would like to request that those wishing to pay their respects attend calling hours at Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls on Tuesday evening from 5 pm until 6 pm followed by a memorial service at the same location at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ALS Association Northern Ohio chapter in honor of LaDonna’s memory.
