Lakewood Church shooting officers to receive mental health support

Houston Police Leaders Prioritize Mental Health Care for Officers Involved in Lakewood Church Shooting.

Law enforcement leaders in Houston are taking steps to ensure that the officers involved in the Lakewood Church shooting receive the mental health care they need. This comes after a gunman opened fire in the church’s lobby, leading to a shootout between the suspect and law enforcement. The suspect, Genesse Ivonne Moreno, was shot and killed by an officer with the Houston Police Department and an officer with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

The Houston Police Officers’ Union has stated that both officers involved in the shooting will have access to peer support teams from the department and union. They will also receive any necessary psychological treatment. The union has reached out to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to offer mental health resources to their officer involved in the shooting as well.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is ongoing. It is a crucial step to ensure that they receive the support and care they need during this time. Providing resources and support for law enforcement officers involved in traumatic and high-stress situations like this is essential for their mental health and well-being. As important as their physical safety may be, it is equally important to prioritize their mental health during times of crisis like this one.
