Statement on Enhancing Health through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Healthcare Industry Leaders Unite for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workforce

A coalition of prominent health care and medical associations from across the country has united to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in the healthcare industry. These organizations include the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), American Medical Association (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

The coalition comprises a diverse group of healthcare professionals with varying backgrounds and specialties, all dedicated to improving patient outcomes. Over the years, these organizations have worked tirelessly to provide physicians with the best tools and evidence to ensure patients receive the highest quality care possible.

As a result, they recognize that promoting DEI is essential to addressing longstanding inequalities in the healthcare system that have a significant impact on patients’ health and communities. Without a physician workforce that can care for patients holistically without barriers to entry into the profession, excellence in patient care cannot be achieved.

The coalition stands united in its commitment to enhancing inclusive excellence by advocating for DEI policies that will benefit all members and patients alike.
