On Sunday morning, the Butler County Health Department building in Greenville was destroyed by a fire. The building has been declared a total loss and local authorities are working with the state Fire Marshal’s office to investigate the cause of the fire. According to Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, the fire does not appear to be intentional at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
Health department officials have confirmed that no one was in the building during the fire and there were no injuries reported. The Alabama Department of Public Health is currently working to find a temporary space to continue providing services until a new building can be established. In the meantime, citizens who need health department services are encouraged to contact the Crenshaw County Health Department or other nearby locations for assistance. Contact information and hours for all county health departments can be found on their website.
