Gia Lai province, known for its agricultural prowess, is seeking support from the Ministry of Science and Technology to investigate the scientific basis for restoring and sustainably managing dipterocarp forest ecosystems. During a working session with Minister Huynh Thanh Dat, Gia Lai leaders exchanged experiences on organizing and managing science, technology, and innovation activities while discussing economic development in the province.
Gia Lai’s focus on science and technology is essential in supporting its people in farming, growing, and processing crops. With climate change posing significant challenges to agriculture, the provincial leaders aim to make a breakthrough in agricultural development by applying science.
One of the initiatives proposed by Gia Lai is to study the scientific foundation for restoring and managing dipterocarp forests sustainably. Dipterocarp forests are home to numerous valuable species that have seen a decline due to inadequate exploitation and management. The research will help preserve these vital ecosystems while promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
In addition to dipterocarp forest restoration, Gia Lai also proposes other projects such as promoting An Khe Paleolithic relic system’s value and implementing science and technology projects. The province has made significant strides in transferring technical and technological advancements to enhance the quality and competitiveness of key products like coffee and cashew nuts.
Minister Huynh Thanh Dat praised Gia Lai’s achievements and emphasized the importance of investing in science, technology, and innovation. He urged the leaders to focus on research and technological innovation in production, agriculture, and other critical sectors. The Ministry’s functional units will provide support for local science and technology tasks implementation, particularly in remote areas with large ethnic minorities.
Overall, Gia Lai’s commitment to advancing agricultural development through science and technology aligns with government initiatives aimed at improving Vietnam’s competitiveness globally.
