Germany: A Steadfast Ally to Israel Amidst U.S. Shifts

Germany and the German Bundestag have reiterated their unwavering support for Israel, declaring that they will stand by Israel until it is safe to do so. They have also called for the immediate release of all abductees. During a meeting held on October 12th, Barbel Bass, President of the German Bundestag, emphasized Germany’s commitment to Israel in this matter.

At the end of October, the United Nations voted in favor of a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. Out of 120 countries, 97 voted in favor while 14 abstained from voting. Germany abstained from voting as well, neither supporting nor condemning Hamas’ actions. The Israeli ambassador to Germany expressed disappointment at this decision and urged the country’s support in monitoring funds to ensure they do not go towards terrorist organizations.

In addition to political support, major football clubs such as Bayern Munich and Dortmund hosted families of abductees and expressed their support for Israel. The newspaper “Bild” projected pictures of the abductees on its main building and was praised for its fair coverage compared to other international media outlets.

The German media has been widely praised for its coverage of the situation in Gaza, with many tangible demonstrations of support from various sectors in Germany beyond just politics and media.
