Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis: Millions Displaced and Facing Uncertainty as Conflict Rages On

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has displaced approximately 80% of its inhabitants, totaling around 1.9 million people, as estimated by the UN coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag. Kaag expressed deep concern over reports of new evacuation orders from Khan Yunis during an address to the Security Council. The Israeli military order requiring civilians to leave Al-Qarara, Bani Suhaila, and other areas near Khan Yunis has impacted up to 250,000 people, creating a serious humanitarian crisis and widespread human misery.

Kaag emphasized that Palestinian civilians in Gaza are facing immense suffering, with their lives completely disrupted by the ongoing conflict. She called for more aid to reach Gaza and urged the international community to increase funding for relief efforts. Kaag noted that the volume of aid entering Gaza has significantly decreased since the start of the Israeli operation in Rafah.

The spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also commented on the evacuation order, warning that requiring the evacuation of such a large area in Khan Yunis and Rafah governorates will only exacerbate the suffering of civilians. The spokesman stressed the need for a more humanitarian approach to address the crisis in Gaza.

Despite these challenges, efforts are being made to provide relief and support to the displaced population. However, millions of people continue to face uncertainty and hardships as they are caught in the crossfire of the conflict.
