The Dallas Cowboys have decided to part ways with receiver Martavis Bryant, marking the end of his latest attempt at a comeback in the NFL. Despite signing with the Cowboys’ practice squad last season and being kept on a futures contract, Bryant was unable to secure a spot on the active roster.
The 32-year-old hasn’t played in an NFL game since November 11, 2018, when he was with the Oakland Raiders before their move to Las Vegas. Throughout his career, Bryant has faced multiple suspensions due to substance-abuse violations.
Bryant was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and showed promise early on by catching eight touchdowns in 10 games during his rookie year. However, his career has been marred by suspensions, with his first one coming before his second season.
In 2015, Bryant bounced back with a career-high 765 receiving yards after his first suspension. But he was then banned for the entire 2016 season and played one more season with the Steelers before being traded to the Raiders in 2018. Another suspension followed late in the 2018 season.
The Cowboys took a chance on Bryant almost five years after his last suspension but unfortunately, it didn’t work out for him this time around as well.
