EURO 2024 standout makes permanent departure from Ajax

From EURO 2024 to Monaco: The Surprising Move of Georgues Mikautadze

Georges Mikautadze, the 23-year-old forward who had a standout performance at EURO 2024, has permanently left Ajax. Despite scoring in all three of his country’s group games before Georgia was eliminated by Spain in the last 16, Mikautadze was unable to prevent Metz from being relegated after he returned to the club in January following a disappointing six months in Amsterdam.

In a surprising move, Metz have exercised the option to make Mikautadze’s move permanent for an apparent €10m. The deal between Ajax and Metz included this option, but it is unclear why they chose to exercise it now. It has been confirmed that Mikautadze will not remain in Ligue 2, as talks have advanced for him to be sold quickly in order to make a profit.

It is expected that Mikautadze will soon be acquired by Monaco, with the forward departing Ajax and beginning a new chapter in his career. This move marks the end of his time with the club and leaves many questions about what lies ahead for him on the field.
