Broncos Roster Series: Player No. 20 – Fullback Michael Burton

From Detroiter to Bronco: The Journey of Michael Burton, Denver’s Standout Fullback

Michael Burton, a ninth-year veteran and fullback wearing No. 20, is one of the standout players in the Denver Broncos’ offseason roster. Before joining the Broncos, Burton played for the Detroit Lions as a fifth-round pick from Rutgers in 2015. He spent two seasons with the Lions before being waived and then playing for the Chicago Bears for two years. In 2019, he attended training camp with the New Orleans Saints but did not make it to their 53-man roster. After stints with the Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs, including helping them win Super Bowl LVII, Burton returned to New Orleans before joining the Broncos last spring on a one-year contract.

As a fullback, Burton has made significant contributions to special teams throughout his career. He has recorded 35 rushes for 71 yards and one touchdown, as well as 21 receptions for 131 yards and one score throughout his career. With no true fullbacks on the team ahead of training camp besides him barring any plans to convert tight end/fullback Nate Adkins to a full-time role, Burton’s chances of making the 53-man roster seem high.
