New basketball postseason tournament collaboration announced by Fox and AEG

Fox Sports and AEG Partner to Launch New College Basketball Tournament: The College Basketball Crown

The College Basketball Crown, a new postseason college basketball tournament, is set to take place from March 31 to April 6, 2025 in Las Vegas. Fox Sports and AEG have teamed up to launch the tournament, which will feature 16 teams playing games at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and T-Mobile Arena. These arenas have previously hosted college basketball games, including the Pac-12 tournaments.

Teams that do not qualify for the NCAA tournament will have a chance to participate in the College Basketball Crown. The Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences will each have two automatic entries, while the remaining teams will be selected by a committee. This provides more opportunities for student-athletes to compete in high-quality postseason college hoops.

The College Basketball Crown is anticipated to be the primary competitor to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), which is currently run by the NCAA. However, some schools declined invitations to participate in the NIT this season despite its recent modification of its selection process to include more teams from power six conferences. The NIT has roots dating back to 1938 when games were held at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. While last year’s final four took place in Las Vegas and this year’s event is set to occur this week in Indianapolis, the College Basketball Crown aims to provide an exciting and competitive alternative for teams that do not make the NCAA tournament and enhance the postseason college basketball experience for players and fans alike.

Fox Sports executive vice president Jordan Bazant expressed excitement about providing more opportunities for student-athletes to compete in high-quality postseason college hoops through this partnership with AEG. With Fox Sports bringing their expertise in sports broadcasting and AEG’s experience in hosting major events such as Super Bowl XLIX and Final Four II, it’s clear that they are committed to making this tournament a success.

In conclusion, Fox Sports and AEG have launched a new postseason college basketball tournament called the College Basketball Crown that takes place from March 31st – April 6th at T-Mobile Arena and MGM Grand Garden Arena both of which are well equipped with state of art amenities for fans’ enjoyment. The tournament offers an exciting alternative for teams that do not make it into
