Fourth of July: Open or Closed? Understanding Holiday Business Hours in the US

The Fourth of July marks the birth of American independence, a day celebrated with barbecues, fireworks, and a day off from work for many Americans. This year, the holiday falls on Thursday. Several stores will remain open on the Fourth of July, with Target and Walmart locations maintaining their regular hours, along with most Kroger grocery stores like Fred Meyer, Dillons, and Ralphs. Sam’s Club will be open with adjusted hours for Plus and Club members, while Costco warehouses will be closed. Whole Foods will operate normally, while Trader Joe’s will close early at 5 pm.

However, it is important to note that Independence Day is a national holiday in the United States. As such, services like the United States Postal Service, UPS, FedEx and most banks will be closed. Services like UPS Express Critical and FedEx Custom Critical will still be available for urgent shipments. Nonessential government offices like the DMV and public libraries will also be closed on July 4th. Despite this, online banking services and ATMs will remain operational, providing convenient options for those needing access to financial services on this special day.
