A former safety for the San Francisco 49ers, Tashaun Gipson Sr., has been suspended from the NFL for six games after a violation of the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. This news was originally reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gipson had spent the last two seasons with the 49ers, joining the team in 2022 and re-signed in 2023 on a one-year, $2.9 million deal. During the previous season, Gipson started all 16 games for San Francisco, recording an impressive 60 tackles, one sack, and one interception. He also played in all three playoff games, including the 49ers’ Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he contributed five tackles.
Gipson is a one-time Pro Bowler and has been playing in the NFL since 2012 for teams such as the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, and Chicago Bears. At almost 34 years old in August, this suspension will undoubtedly impact his future in the league. It remains uncertain how this violation will affect his career moving forward.
