Finland’s Foreign Minister Calls on Europe to Provide More Support for Ukraine in Its Fight Against Russian Aggression”.

Finland’s Foreign Minister Valtonen is concerned about the dire situation in Ukraine and believes that Europe could do more to assist the country. With dwindling ammunition and troops, Ukraine lost Avdijvka in February and now faces a threat to the strategically important Chasiv Yar. US Forces Europe Commander Christopher G. Cabbages recently stated that without help, Ukraine is losing the war. Valtonen questions whether Europe still believes in Ukraine’s chance to win.

Valtonen acknowledges the terrible situation but also highlights that just over two years ago, many thought Kyiv would fall in a few days, which did not happen. Now, Ukraine needs support from either the United States or Europe to turn the situation around. Valtonen appreciates initiatives like the Czech ammunition purchase and President Macron’s aid efforts but criticizes Germany’s hesitation to provide weapons due to internal political discussions. He emphasizes Germany’s substantial financial support for Ukraine despite its reluctance to provide weapons.

Finland has been a significant supporter of Ukraine, with aid packages and security commitments. Valtonnen stresses the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine in all European discussions and forums. Some have suggested potential solutions involving territorial concessions, but Valtonnen and Ukraine reject such ideas due to lack of trust in Russia. He recalls the Euromaidan protests as a demonstration of Ukraine’s fight for independence and freedom, urging Europe not to abandon the country now.

In conclusion, Finland’s Foreign Minister Valtonnen believes that Europe can do more to assist Ukraine in its current dire situation by providing it with more military assistance or financial support instead of hesitating on providing weapons due to internal political discussions or territorial concessions ideas rejection.
