In Pescara, at the Fratelli d’Italia “Italy changes Europe” programmatic conference, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, proposed a significant project to create Italian technology with small, medium, and large companies. The focus would be on the Mediterranean region in geopolitical terms and in relation to energy and other sectors connected to defense. According to Folgiero, Italy’s proximity to the Mediterranean makes it a crucial region due to its numerous submarine cables, telecommunication lines, gas pipelines and critical infrastructure that require protection. Furthermore, he highlighted the potential for economic and technological growth in the region with mining activities. Fincantieri plans to produce smaller submarines and drones ranging from three to nine meters that would be utilized by the Italian Navy for safeguarding critical infrastructure in the Mediterranean.
