Roswell, New Mexico, Commemorates Global UFO Day

Exploring the Cosmos: Roswell’s UFO Festival Celebrates World UFO Day and Alleged Extraterrestrial Encounters

On July 2, Americans celebrate World UFO Day, commemorating the anniversary of the 1947 Roswell incident. This day marks the crash of an Army weather balloon in New Mexico, which sparked conspiracy theories about a government cover-up. UFO enthusiasts around the world gather to honor this event and prepare for their own Independence Day celebrations.

The town of Roswell, known as the self-proclaimed UFO capital of the world, hosts its annual UFO Festival during this time. The festival attracts visitors from all over the globe and nearly doubles the town’s population. Merchant sales skyrocket as people come to witness costume contests, speakers, panels, and family-friendly activities. City Councilor Juliana Halvorson mentioned on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” that the festival welcomes both believers and skeptics alike.

Although there aren’t many UFO sightings in Roswell nowadays, Halvorson noted that there has been an increased interest in UFO tourism following whistleblower David Grusch’s claims about alleged government programs involving nonhuman technology. The U.S. government has denied these claims. Visitors are encouraged to keep an open mind and explore Roswell’s UFO museum, home to the world’s largest UFO library, to learn more about what’s happening in the world. Whether you’re a true believer or just looking for some family fun, the town of Roswell offers something for everyone on World UFO Day.
