The University of Michigan Health System is set to acquire the vacant 7.8-acre land at the former Kmart headquarters in Troy for the construction of a multi-specialty facility. The property, located at 3100 West Big Beaver Road, will be purchased for $4.42 million and presented for approval at the University of Michigan Board of Regents meeting.
Marschall Runge, CEO of Michigan Medicine, sees this as an opportunity to establish a presence in southeast Michigan and expand clinical services and patient access in Oakland County. President David Miller believes that the facility will serve as a hub for advanced clinical programs like multi-disciplinary cancer care, providing easier access to their world-class care for metro Detroit residents.
The move is part of U-M Health’s broader effort to establish a network of care across the state, allowing more Michigan residents to access their services close to home. The new facility in Troy is seen as a strategic location to expand their reach and bring innovative clinical programs to a new community of patients.
