Exclusive: Chelsea Signs Former Barcelona Defender Lucy Bronze for Two-Year Contract
Chelsea is set to sign English right-back Lucy Bronze on a two-year contract following her departure from Women’s Champions League holders Barcelona. The 32-year-old left the Spanish club after two successful seasons, sparking speculation about her next move. Although she had interest from clubs in the NWSL and Paris Saint-Germain, sources have confirmed that Bronze will return to the Women’s Super League with Chelsea.
Bronze played a key role in Barcelona’s domestic and European success during her time at the club, including winning two league titles and retaining the Women’s Champions League crown. Prior to her time at Barcelona, Bronze had played for Manchester City and various other clubs.
Chelsea’s interest in Bronze comes as they prepare for a new era under manager Sonia Bompastor, who has replaced Emma Hayes. Hayes had a successful tenure at Chelsea, winning numerous titles during her 12-year stint as manager. In addition to signing Bronze, Chelsea has also signed 20-year-old Julia Bartel and has been linked with French players Sandy Baltimore and Oriane Jean-Francois as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
