The Elite Eight matchup between Iowa and LSU was a huge success in terms of viewership, with 12.3 million viewers tuning in to watch the game. This was the most-viewed women’s college basketball game ever and the highest-rated college basketball game on ESPN platforms. Iowa emerged victorious with a score of 94-87, denying LSU a chance to defend their national championship title.

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark had an impressive performance in the Elite Eight, scoring 41 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds. She was named the Albany 2 Regional Most Outstanding Player, breaking records for career 3-pointers and NCAA Tournament assists. The Hawkeyes are set to face off against UConn in the Final Four, with Iowa looking for a chance to avenge their previous Sweet 16 loss to the Huskies in 2021.

Last year’s Elite Eight game between LSU and Iowa held the previous record with 9.9 million average viewers and 12.6 million at its peak. This year’s game reached a peak of 16.1 million viewers, making it the second-highest audience for any basketball game on the network since 2012. Oregon State-South Carolina also drew millions of viewers, solidifying this year’s Elite Eight as one of the most-watched on record.

With such high stakes and talented teams in the mix, the Final Four promises to be an exciting showdown between some of the best teams in women’s college basketball.
