Dubai’s Skyline: Expanding the City around a New $35 Billion Airport Terminal”.

Dubai South is set to become a new city around Al Maktoum International Airport, with housing for over a million people and opportunities for leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors. This ambitious project, initiated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to create a global center that will serve as an airport, port, urban hub, and world class facility.

The construction of the new $35 billion airport terminal began in 2023 and will eventually replace Dubai International Airport as the main hub for Emirates airline. The new terminal will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport and will be able to handle up to 260 million passengers annually. Once completed, it will become one of the largest airports in the world, solidifying Dubai’s position as a key aviation hub.

Dubai International Airport has been the busiest airport in the world for international travel for over a decade now. In 2023 alone, nearly 87 million passengers used its facilities. Despite its capacity constraints, Dubai continues to see growth in international visitors, reaching a record high of 17.15 million last year. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports sees this move as a bold step towards expanding Dubai’s aviation infrastructure further.
