Discovering the Next Frontier: Meet the Scientific Wunderkinds of Tomorrow

In the world of science and medicine, there are always new stars emerging. That’s why each year, STAT selects a new class of Wunderkinds to highlight these promising young researchers as they begin their careers. This event is not just about showcasing the latest and greatest, but also featuring past Wunderkinds in a conversation to discuss their current journeys, share their most inspiring and innovative ideas.

The event will feature sponsor introductions from Lauren Averett Byers, M.D., and Koichi Takahashi, M.D., Ph.D., both from MD Anderson Cancer Center. These experts will provide insights into the latest developments in their respective fields and how they have influenced the next generation of scientists and doctors.

Among the featured speakers are Nicole M. Gaudelli, Ph.D., an entrepreneur at GV who invented the Adenine Base Editor, a gene-editing tool, and Kellie Jurado, Ph.D., a professor at the University of Pennsylvania researching immune system response to viral infections in early life. These two researchers are already making significant contributions to their respective fields and have exciting things ahead for them.

Bianca Jones Marlin, Ph.D., from Columbia University will also be featured in this conversation as she investigates the inheritance of trauma and stress biologically. Her work has important implications for mental health care and could lead to new treatments for conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Lastly, Siddhartha Roy, Ph.D., from Rutgers University will focus on ensuring safe drinking water access for all in light of the Flint Water Crisis. His work is particularly timely given current events surrounding water quality issues around the world.

The moderator for this enlightening conversation will be Nicholas St. Fleur, a general assignment reporter and associate editorial director of events at STAT.

Tune in at 1 p.m. ET for this inspiring event that showcases some of today’s brightest minds in science and medicine!
