Report: Pistons and Cade Cunningham Reach Agreement on Max Contract Extension in 2024 NBA Free Agency

Detroit Pistons Extend Cade Cunningham’s Contract, Hire New Coach Amidst Another Poor Season

Cade Cunningham has been signed by the Detroit Pistons to a five-year, $226 million maximum contract extension. Despite having an impressive season, the Pistons finished with a 14-68 record in 2022, which was the worst in the league for the second consecutive year. However, Cunningham finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting and showed improvement as a shooter and playmaker in his third year.

The Pistons have appointed J.B. Bickerstaff as their new head coach after firing Monty Williams despite having $65 million remaining on his contract. Bickerstaff takes over from Williams and will be tasked with developing Cunningham into the star player he is projected to be. If Cunningham earns a spot on an All-NBA team during the 2024-25 season, his contract could be worth even more money.
