Denver Broncos Sign Undrafted Australian Rugby Star Thomas Yassmin, Competes for Tight End Spot in Sean Payton’s System

Denver Broncos recently signed undrafted free agent tight end Thomas Yassmin after the 2024 NFL draft. Yassmin, who stands at 6-5 and weighs 251 pounds, played alongside Denver’s seventh-round draft pick Devaughn Vele at the University of Utah. Originally from Australia, Yassmin had a background in rugby before transitioning to football during his time at Utah.

Yassmin started making a name for himself in football in 2022 when he played in all 13 games, starting six times and racking up impressive statistics. He caught 13 passes for 301 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 23.2 yards per catch. Unfortunately, his 2023 season was cut short due to a season-ending injury after playing in just five games and recording eight catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.

In Denver, Yassmin will be competing for a spot among a crowded tight end room which includes players like Greg Dulcich, Lucas Krull, Adam Trautman, and Nate Adkins. Head coach Sean Payton’s system values big-bodied tight ends, presenting Yassmin with an opportunity to showcase his skills during training camp in order to secure a spot on the roster.

Yassmin’s participation in the NFL’s International Player Pathway program may also allow him to make the team’s practice squad without being included in the 16-player limit.
