Dave Portnoy’s Sports Betting Streak Comes to an End with Oilers Loss, But Philly Phillies Wager Could Spark New Winning Streak
Barstool founder Dave Portnoy’s streak of successful sports betting may have come to an end with the loss of his bet on the Edmonton Oilers, but he was quick to jump back into action. On Tuesday, Portnoy placed a massive $200,000 wager on the Philadelphia Phillies winning the 2024 World Series at +600 for a potential profit of $1.2 million.
Portnoy wrote about his loss on X after the Oilers’ Game 7 defeat and expressed gratitude to friend @elio82 for winning. He also noted that all good things must come to an end before starting a new streak. The Phillies bet could be the latest in what has been a profitable year for Portnoy, who has won roughly $7 million on several winning wagers.
The year began with a $1.5 million win on Michigan on New Year’s Day and continued with a $500,000 victory on the Kansas City Chiefs beating San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl. In April, Portnoy had an incredible week where he won $2.1 million on UConn’s national championship and another $1.35 million from Scottie Scheffler’s Masters victory. With their NBA title win earlier this month, the Celtics earned him another $1.6 million.
However, early June saw Portnoy jinx himself by calling for championship wins for both the Celtics and Oilers before either series started, which may have caused some negative impact on his run of successful betting streaks.”
