Curiosity Back on Track: Resuming Scientific Operations After Safe Mode Anomaly

On Sol 1398, after a brief hiatus to address a safe mode anomaly, Curiosity resumed its scientific operations. The day’s plan included a series of observations and a drive to a new location.

Curiosity began the day with ChemCam and Mastcam observations of the target “Luanda” to study the composition of the local bedrock. Mastcam also took images of blocky deposits and stratification within the Murray formation. After these scientific observations, Curiosity drove approximately 76 meters and took post-drive images for future targeting.

In the afternoon, Curiosity conducted another round of observations using Navcam and Mastcam to study the atmosphere. Overnight, the rover completed its final CheMin analysis of the Oudam drill sample.

The plan also included some additional diagnostics for the flight software. Despite these tasks, the team was excited to be back on the road and exploring new terrain. To learn more about the anomaly and Curiosity’s return to operations, refer to the recent press release by Lauren Edgar.
