Entrepreneur Launches Glass Blowing Company

Creating Magic with Glass: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Sweaty Glass, Kentucky’s Newest Art Studio

In Bowling Green, Kentucky, a new small business has just opened its doors – Sweaty Glass. Owned by Shane Spickard, this is the second glass blowing studio in the state. Specializing in the art of glass blowing, Sweaty Glass offers a unique and mesmerizing process that is both intricate and captivating.

Spickard’s passion for glass blowing began when he attended the Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville, Tennessee. He fell in love with the art form and has been honing his skills ever since 2019. Now, he has transformed a garage into his own glass-making factory where he creates stunning glass cups, vases, and other decorations using melted glass. Spickard also teaches classes for those interested in learning the art of glass blowing.

The process of creating these glass pieces is nothing short of miraculous. Spickard begins by heating the glass until it reaches a molten state. He then adds colorful glass frit to create intricate designs on the surface of the glass. Using various tools such as tweezers and blowpipes, he shapes and molds the molten glass into beautiful vases and other decorative items. Even wet newspaper can be used to shape the molten glass into unique forms. After smoothing out any rough edges with a torch, Spickard places each piece in a stove to cool for 12 hours before it’s ready to be admired and displayed in homes or shops throughout Kentucky and beyond.

Sweaty Glass is located at 144 W 10th Avenue in Bowling Green and welcomes anyone interested in learning more about this fascinating art form or simply taking home some one-of-a-kind creations to add to their collection.

In conclusion, Sweaty Glass is an amazing new addition to Bowling Green’s small business community that offers a truly unique experience for those interested in learning about or enjoying the beauty of handcrafted glass artistry. With its skilled owner and intricate processes, Sweaty Glass is sure to become a popular destination for art lovers looking for something special.
