The Cowboys have signed running back Royce Freeman on a one-year deal, according to Todd Archer of ESPN. Despite this addition, Dallas is still expected to draft a running back next week due to the loss of Tony Pollard. Freeman brings a wealth of experience to the team, joining Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner on the depth chart.
Freeman played for the Rams last season and rushed for 319 yards and two touchdowns on 77 carries. Over his past four seasons, he has played for Denver, Carolina, Houston, and Los Angeles since being drafted by the Broncos in 2018. His best season came as a rookie when he had 521 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries. In his second season, he had a career-high 175 touches for a total of 752 yards from scrimmage.
During his last four seasons, Freeman recorded 209 carries for 775 yards and two touchdowns along with 29 receptions for 204 yards. He is the second free agent signed by the Cowboys this offseason, with linebacker Eric Kendricks being the other new addition.
