Colm McLoughlin, who has served as Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Duty Free for 55 years, has announced his decision to step down from his position. His retirement will take place on May 31, 2024. Throughout his career, McLoughlin played a significant role in the growth of Dubai Duty Free to become the largest duty free shop in the world. He will transition to an advisory role and continue to be involved in sporting events sponsored by the Dubai Duty Free Foundation.
Ramesh Sidambi, currently head of operations at Dubai Duty Free, will take over as the new CEO starting June 1, 2024. He will report directly to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Dubai Duty Free. Additionally, Salah Tahlak, currently the Joint Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of Executive Vice President at Dubai Duty Free.
Colm McLoughlin expressed his gratitude to the Chairman and the entire Dubai Duty Free team for their support throughout his career. He believes that Dubai Duty Free will continue to thrive under the leadership of Ramesh and Salah. Ramesh Sidambi and Salah Tahlak shared their excitement about their new roles and expressed their appreciation for the trust placed in them by the leadership.
During his tenure, Colm McLoughlin oversaw significant growth at Dubai Duty Free, with revenues increasing from US$20 million in 1984 to US$2.16 billion in 2023. He received numerous awards for his contributions to the travel retail industry and Dubai Duty Free’s success. As a respected leader in the sector, McLoughlin has left a lasting impact on the organization and its employees.
