Closing the Gap: Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho’s Close Call at the Dow Championship

The Dow Championship was a close call for Ally Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho, who came in just short of winning the tournament. However, both players improved their chances of making the Solheim Cup team. Currently, Ewing is ranked third in U.S. points, while Kupcho has moved up to 12th. The top seven players after the AIG Women’s Open on Aug. 25 will automatically qualify for the American team. Two more spots will go to the top two U.S. players in the Rolex Rankings who are not already in the top seven in points. Currently, those spots belong to Alison Lee at No. 22 and Angel Yin at No. 31. Kupcho is currently ranked at No. 50, but she’s still got a chance to make it onto the team as one of the captain’s picks.

In terms of the U.S standings, Nelly Korda is currently leading, followed by Lilia Vu, Alleren Corpuz, Megan Khang and Andrea Lee respectively . Rose Zhang is also in contention for a spot on the team along with other players such as Lauren Coughlin, Sarah Schmelzel, Angel Yin, Alison Lee and Jennifer Kupcho.

On the European side, Charley Hull and Linn Grant are currently leading the standings for Europe’s top two players in points respectively.

Maja Stark and Alex Forsterling are also among Europe’s standout players along with Carlota Ciganda and Manon de Roey.

The Rolex Rankings show that Celine Boutier , Charley Hull , Maja Stark , Linn Grant , Carlota Ciganda , Leona Maguire , Madelene Sagstrom , Georgia Hall , Esther Henseleit , Anna Nordqvist , Alex Forsterling , Albane Valenzuela and Perrine Delacour are all contenders for a spot on Europe’s team as well.

The Solheim Cup will be held from September 4-7th this year at Gleneagles Golf Club in Scotland where two teams of six women golfers from Europe and America will compete against each other for supremacy on course..
