China launches anti-dumping investigation targeting EU pork following EU’s electric vehicle measures

China Launches Probe into Pork Dumping from EU amid Tensions

China has recently launched an investigation into certain pork products imported from the European Union. The investigation is aimed at determining whether there has been any dumping of these products in the Chinese market. The products being investigated include fresh, cold, and frozen pork, as well as pig offal, pig fat without lean meat, and pig intestines, bladders, and stomachs.

The investigation will cover import dumping from January 1 to December 31 of the previous year and will evaluate industrial damage over a four-year period from the beginning of 2020 to the end of 2023. The investigation began on Monday and is expected to last no longer than a year but may be extended for an additional six months.

The decision to launch the investigation was made by China’s Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom) following a formal application from the China Animal Agriculture Association, which represents the domestic pork industry. A spokesperson from Mofcom stated that the application met the necessary conditions for an investigation and that Mofcom will conduct it in compliance with Chinese laws, regulations, and World Trade Organization rules.

Mofcom is committed to protecting the rights of all interested parties and will make objective and fair rulings based on the results of the investigation. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.
