Potential New Sports Complex Planned for Southeast Tallahassee

Charlie Ward Champions Ranch Sports Complex: A New Hub for Community Recreation in Tallahassee

The development of the Charlie Ward Champions Ranch sports complex in Southeast Tallahassee is gaining momentum. The proposed facility, named after former FSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward, would be located near the intersection of Capital Circle Southeast and Woodville Highway. On Tuesday, the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission voted in favor of rezoning the area to allow for the construction of the project.

Local residents are excited about the prospect of a new sports complex in their community. Miesha Barrington, a parent of five, frequently visits Four Oaks Park and looks forward to having more recreational options for her children closer to home. The Charlie Ward Champions Ranch would span 109.36 acres and feature multi-sport fields, courts, a golf course and driving range, as well as walking trails and park areas. Approximately one-third of the property would be designated for retail and event spaces.

Pickleball player Spencer Duffey is also enthusiastic about the sports complex. He believes that the new facility will offer amenities that are currently lacking in the area. While the project still needs approval from the city commission to proceed, it is expected that a vote on rezoning will take place at their meeting on August 21st.
