Commissioners organize safe gun storage presentation during Public Health Week

Camden County’s BeSMART for Kids Presentation: Safe Storage Saves Lives During Public Health Week

During Public Health Week, the Board of Commissioners in Camden County held a gun storage presentation called BeSMART for Kids: Safe Storage Saves Lives. This presentation aimed to educate adults, regardless of whether they are gun owners or not, on the importance of discussing safe storage practices.

Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, who is the liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services, emphasized the significance of safe gun storage in saving lives and being a responsible gun owner. She stressed that even if someone does not personally own guns, it is crucial to be able to communicate with others about safe gun storage. This is especially important because children may come into contact with guns in the homes of friends or relatives. By initiating this conversation in Camden County, the aim was to raise awareness and start a dialogue during Public Health Week.
