ByteDance Suspends Reward Functions on TikTok Lite in Collaboration with European Commission to Protect Minors

ByteDance has recently suspended the reward functions of TikTok Lite as they collaborate with the European Commission to address concerns about transparency and protection of minors. The app, an extension of TikTok that rewards users for watching and interacting with videos, is currently in testing phase in Spain and France.

The European Union has been investigating the impact of TikTok Lite on minors and how ByteDance is working to mitigate risks such as addictive behaviors. The reward mechanism in TikTok Lite specifically caught their attention. In response, ByteDance has decided to suspend the reward system on TikTok Lite to address the concerns raised by authorities.

In a statement shared on social media, ByteDance announced the suspension of reward features in TikTok Lite while they investigate the concerns raised by the authorities. Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, acknowledged this decision and emphasized the importance of protecting children from potential risks associated with social media platforms.

Breton highlighted concerns about addictive behavior risks and applauded TikTok’s decision to suspend the reward program in the EU. He indicated that cases against TikTok continue due to their addictive potential and emphasized the need for the Digital Services Law to ensure safety in Europe’s online space.

ByteDance has always collaborated constructively with authorities, and this latest move is no exception. They are committed to ensuring that their platforms are safe and compliant with regulations while still providing a fun and engaging experience for users around the world.

In conclusion, ByteDance’s decision to suspend reward functions on TikTok Lite shows their commitment to addressing concerns raised by authorities regarding transparency and protection of minors. It also highlights their ongoing efforts to work constructively with regulatory bodies around the world to ensure a safe online space for all users.
