Brookline Public Health Awards Recipients, Encourages Community to Attend AI Panel

The Friends of Brookline Public Health are thrilled to announce the recipients of two esteemed awards – the Alan Balsam Public Health Leadership Award and the Herb Carlin Community Health Award, which will be presented at an upcoming gathering on November 29th.

The Alan Balsam Public Health Leadership Award will be awarded to Lawrence “Larry” Madoff, MD, Medical Director, Bureau of Infectious Disease and Laboratory Sciences, Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the staff of the Brookline Department of Public Health for their outstanding service during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. This award recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional leadership in the field of public health both locally and nationally.

The Herb Carlin Community Health Award will be given to Brookline Thrives, a community organization that addresses food insecurity, and Bonnie Bastien, who founded Mutual Aid Brookline during the pandemic. This award honors organizations or individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the public health of Brookline.

The awards will be presented to the deserving recipients during the Friends of Brookline Public Health’s event “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Public Health: Opportunities and Challenges for Brookline” on Wednesday, November 29th from 6-7:30 p.m. at Brookline High School, 115 Greenough St. The event will feature a panel presentation and dynamic discussion with local experts in the field about AI’s intersection with public health in Brookline.
